Doing It Again: “Operation Pledge Up!”
As you hopefully know, I’ve been promoting Tobi Hill-Meyer’s new film project, the trans* documentary Doing It Again: In Depth, because it needs funding to get made. Thanks to the support of people like you, it is now almost funded to the minimum goal: the one that insures that it happens. But, as a non-binary femme, I want to make sure it gets funded to the maximum goal so that it non only has music, subtitling (which I think is vital for accessibility), a travel fund to insure participant diversity, and a professional co-editor but to have a whole volume of the completed film dedicated to genderqueer and non-binary partners and genderqueer and non-binary trans* women, trans* females, and trans* feminine people themselves.
For that reason, I, along with a couple of other backers of the project, have decided to participate in what has been dubbed “Operation Pledge Up!”. If, as the 8 August funding deadline for the project draws near, it is near to the goal of making a non-binary/genderqueer volume, we will increase our pledges to try to push it to the $15K needed to make that volume. Will you join us to make this happen?
If you need some persuasion to do so, consider this: Non-binary representation is vital for the same reason that showing trans* women, trans* females, and trans* feminine people with both cis and trans* partners. The diversity of trans* people and relationships needs to be shown both to educate people who are unaware of the diversity of trans* existence and to show various trans* people they are not alone. Also, with a third volume, I think that we’ll see an increased spectrum of representation in all the volumes of the film as Tobi can interview and film half again more people as otherwise planned. It’s a win for everyone.
