Studies on people suffering from depression have uncovered a number of similar beliefs. These are deeply held, oppressive, self-defeating and lead to low self-esteem and distress. They include:
“I should be successful at everything I try.”
“If I am not successful, then I am a failure.”
“If I fail, then: I am worthless, I am unlovable, or, Life is not worth living.”
“Failure is intolerable/unacceptable.” “I should get the approval of everyone.”
“If I am not approved of, then I am unlovable, ugly, worthless, hopeless, alone, etc.”
“I should be certain before I try something.”
“If I am not certain, then the outcome will be negative.”
“I should never be: anxious, depressed, selfish, confused, uncertain, or unhappy with my partner, etc.”
“I should always be on guard for any anxiety.”
“If I let my guard down, something bad will happen.”
“If people see that I am anxious, they will: reject me, humiliate me, think badly of me, etc.”
“My feelings, relationships, sex life, behaviors, etc. should be wonderful and easy at all times.”
These are unrealistic and lead to defeat – and thus to depression and self-rejection. Hence, they must be challenged and replaced in counselling.
Wait, are you telling me that there are people in the world who don’t go around thinking these things all the time?
.__.
That must be nice.
What they said.
welp. I don’t have do all of these, but most.
Poor @ksej has heard these too much since I tell him these things when I think them. :(

URGENT: Yanelli is scheduled to be deported on Tuesday, January 31st. She is struggling to hold it together after two suicide attempts. She needs to be home with her family getting help not facing deportation away from everything she knows!
numol:
if at all possible, please call/sign/pass this around.
Maybe we weren’t able to help Joaquin Luna, but we can certainly help Yanelli. Take action and let’s make this happen.
One Call Could Make The Difference - GOAL is 2,000 calls!
Call ICE – John Morton @ 800-394-5855 or 202.732.3000 or 1-800-821-9358
Sample Script: “Hello I am calling to ask that Yanelli Hernadez (A# 205 012 525) be allowed to stay in the U.S. where she needs treatment. Yanelli is suffering from depression, has attempted to take her own life twice and should not be deported. This is wrong.”
PLEASE SHARE THIS PETITION AND ACTION ALERT WITH YOUR FRIENDS!

additional info from the email Dream Activist is sending out about this:
[WARNING for talk of her abuse in detention, in the text right below]
Stripped Naked and Given a Blanket
That’s how the detention center responded to Yanelli after she almost took her own life.
[END WARNING for talk of her abuse in detention (in text right above)]
And now, only months later, she is being shipped off away from the only family and friends who might be able to help her get better. Yanelli’s case is urgent, we only have until Tuesday to stop her deportation. Yanelli came to the United States all by herself when she was 13, this means that, if deported, she won’t have anyone to support her.
We need your help to get Yanelli out, she needs to be at home with her family receiving treatment. Things are not looking good for her, ICE has already moved her to a different location… the last stop for detainees before they are deported. We pretty much have 1 day to stop Yanelli’s deportation.
Will you join us in making 2,000 calls to ICE demanding they let Yanelli go so she can seek the treatment she needs?
Make a call to John Morton, Director of ICE via one of these numbers:1-800-394-5855 or 202-732-3000 or 1-800-821-9358
Hello I am calling to ask that Yanelli Hernadez (A# 205 012 525) be allowed to stay in the U.S. where she needs treatment. Yanelli is suffering from depression; she has attempted to take her own life twice and should not be deported. This is wrong.
In order to reach our goal of 2,000 calls we need to work together. Can you help us by changing your facebook profile picture to the image here [http://action.dreamactivist.org/alert.jpg]? That way everyone will know exactly what they need to do.
We cannot lose another undocumented youth to suicide; please take action and make a call to stop Yanelli’s Tuesday deportation.
As a show of solidarity, in addition to calls, several states have planned vigils or phone-banks in support of Yanelli. She isn’t the only undocumented person suffering and so we need to be there for each other. If you can, after you make a call please take a quick picture and send it to us so that we can remind each other how much support we really have out there.
All over the country people are taking action for Yanelli, if you can attend one of the local events hosted in the following cities: Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Chicago, New York City, Detroit, Tallahassee, Raleigh, Harrisonburg, San Francisco, Birmingham, Columbus and Cincinnati. We only have until Tuesday to save Yanelli’s life and we aren‘t going to go down without a fight! Will you help us reach our goal of 2,000 calls for Yanelli to be set free?
After you call please let us know how it went so we can keep track of how many calls we get. You can report back on this page, that way maybe your note will encourage someone else to take action as well.
We’ll keep you updated throughout the day. Thank you for all you do.

"I do not trust people who don’t love themselves and yet tell me, ‘I love you.’ There is an African saying which is: Be careful when a naked person offers you a shirt"

- MAYA ANGELOU (via shalomandamour)
Ow. That hurt.
I am usually very fond of Maya Angelou, but this… this is just a great big nono. So people with depression, low self-worth/self-esteem, other mood issues should be automatically distrusted if they say “I love you”. WTF?
And the underlying reasoning behind it here is clearly that we are incapable of loving someone else if we cannot love ourselves. The level of bullshittery and psychophobia…
(via jemimaaslana)
ooh, well said.
personally i’d suggest the naked person is offering you their shirt so that they themselves can dance in naked reverie :D
(via tiaramerchgirl)
While I like your interpretation, her point is that a naked person doesn’t have a shirt to offer. ‘Cause, you know, love is a completely finite and strictly defined thing - just like shirts. You know… next time someone I’m not interested in offers me their shirt (love), I’ll be wanting to know where I can exchange it for money and/or other stuff. Oh wait… love doesn’t work like that.

Commentary^^^
(via genderbitch)
I suffer from a lack of self-love because of depression and self-loathing. When I say ‘I love you.’ to someone it is actually a rare moment of me showing any belief in my self-worth. Because it’s something that I have that I believe has value. Love still exists in me even if it’s something I am unable to give to myself. To claim it doesn’t, as Angelou does in the quote is just plain wrong. When I love someone else, it’s as near as I’m going to get to loving myself. Let me have the love I can without the need to shame me for not being like you or lying about me, Ms Angelou.

If you notice me only blogging happy, cheerful stuff like pics of attractive people, clothed or not, for a while, it’s because I’m currently being challenged with way too much depression (gotta love SAD) with a nice heaping dose of transphobia I’ve been experiencing elsewhere on top. So I’ll likely not be even reblogging the stuff that passes by on my dashboard about crimes against trans people, what hate words and phrases not to use, and that kinda stuff because I don’t want transphobia getting me more down than it already is. I hope this is not a problem. Normal service will return in a while.
